anzac
Anzac Day is a day to remember the soldiers who died in the war
World War One :
Russia was a cold country so the UK decided to help them get supplies. There were two sides the Allies and the Central Powers. But not every country decided to join the war so we call them neutral countries. The reason why the war started was because of imperialism, nationalism and alliances. Imperialism is when countries take over and rule others. Nationalism is when a country says something like were the best, alliances is saying if our country gets attacked you have to support and help.
Gallipoli:
So when the Anzacs were on their way they accidently landed in the wrong place at Gallipoli, where the turks were waiting up on high hills. The strong Anzacs fought for eight months but sadly some soldiers died so they evacuated because no one was winning .
How do NZ and Australia celebrate this day :
So NZ and Australia usually have parades and some of the soldiers march in the middle. Then we have dawn services. Dawn services often have anzac cookies. The soldiers used to have army biscuits which they make into porridge so it was soft. Also you hear the last post. The last post is a type of music that the soldiers used to tell the time. Once in the morning, afternoon and night, because most soldiers didn't have watches. Another thing about celebrating anzac day is wearing poppies. We wear them because during the war there was a battle field called Flanders Field and poppies were the first flowers that grew there.
Least we forget.
